Ethics and values in music therapy for persons who are elderly

Abstract: Contends that the ethics and values of the music therapist (MT) are integrated into therapeutic interventions with elderly people. The qualifications of the MT, the purpose of therapy, and the relationship between the MT and the client are discussed. Physical functionality, social interaction and engagement, and psychological and spiritual values in aging also are discussed. MT interventions and research are reviewed. MTs must be aware of their personal values and their influence on professional practices that deal with the quality of life.
