Abstract: Investigated the preferences of Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients for 5 different types of musical activities: singing, playing instruments, moving/dancing, musical games, and composition/improvisation. 20 female Ss (aged 49-98 yrs) with AD participated. Ss met for 30-min sessions of each activity and were asked to state how much they enjoyed each activity at the end of the session. Ss were also studied for amount of time participating in each activity. Results indicated that the Ss' behavior and verbal reports did not concur: They participated more in playing instruments and dancing and less in composing, but they were not discriminating at the verbal level.
