Einfluss von wässrigen, auf Mistellektin -I standardisierten Mistelextrakten auf die In-vitro-(Tumor) Zellproliferation

Abstract: The in vitro proliferation of representative human/murine tumor cells(HT 1080, human fibrosarcoma; Saos-2, human osteosarcoma; Sec-15, humanepithelial carcinoma; A-431, human epidermal carcinoma) and normal cells(NCTC 2544, human skin epithel; D-532, human praeputial fibroblasts; D98, human bone marrow; Chang, human hepatocyte; L 132 human embryonallung epithel; 3T3, murine embryonal lung epithel) was established in thepresence of mistletoe extract, standardized for mistletoe lectin (ML)-1(0.1, 0.05, 0.01 ng ML-1 per culture). Compared with control cultures inadequate medium, incubation of tumor cells with ML-1 for 24-72 h did notenhance proliferation. However, high ML-1 concentrations offered toxiceffects on embryonal and rapidly proliferating cells. Since 1. no invitro proliferation of tumor cells occurred in the presence of ML-1 2.ML-1 proved to be a potent immunomodulator it can be recommended foradjuvant treatment of cancer patients.
