Die Alchemie des Paracelsus

Abstract: Nearly 500 years ago, the exact date of birth is not known, Paracelsus was born at Einsiedeln, Switzerland. We all know him as a physician and as a person skilled in the art of healing. In the Alps he is still alive as a mystical person. Paracelsus was not only a physician and a person skilled in the art of healing, he also was an alchemist. For him, alchemy was one of the pillars of the art of healing. According to his understanding, alchemy was not the art of making gold, it was rather the preparation of remedies. For this alchemistic processing of plants and minerals he used the expression "spagyric". This term is still used by the successors of Paracelsus and the paracelsists for processing and distributing drugs. With my lecture I want to interpret alchemy or spagyric, which makes it possible for us today to understand the significance of alchemy in the work of Paracelsus. Without imagining the world, how it was seen by Paracelsus from the viewpoint of alchemy or hermetic philosophy - named after the legendary founder of alchemy: Hermes Trismegistos - it is not possible to understand his art of healing.
