Indikationen der physikalischen Ödemtherapie bei Tumorpatienten

Abstract: An important indication of the physical edema therapy, the combination of manual lymphatic drainage according to Vodder-Asdonk and compression treatment, is the treatment of lymphatic edemas in patients with tumor diseases. This treatment deals with lymphatic edemas after a cancer therapy, which have developed as a result of surgical and radiotherapeutical destruction of lymph tracts and lymph nodes as well as with malign lymphatic edemas in the case of cancer diseases which are still active. Since an elimination of tumor cells from affected lymph nodes or from tumors themselves can not be excluded with the lymphatic drainage therapy, there exists in the case of a sole locoregional formation of metastases a contra-indication of the physical edema therapy until cancer has been treated with an anti-tumor therapy. In the case of the remaining forms of the formation of metastases there exists no contra-indication of the physical edema therapy. With the secondary lymphatic edemas after a cancer therapy, i.e. without tumor activity, in 98% of the cases a good to satisfactory result can be achieved. With malign lymphatic edemas in 60% of the cases a good to satisfactory result can be achieved and only in 20% of the cases a failure of the therapy can be noted. These are cases with a fast tumor progression. Finally, the general contra-indications for a lymphatic drainage therapy are explained. It is impossible to imagine the tumor follow-up therapy concept without the physical edema therapy, because it means a much better quality of life for the affected people.
