"Hydrohomöopathie"? - Die Kaltwassertherapie in der homöopathischen Literatur um die Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts (Teil 1: Hochfliegende Pläne für eine enge Verbindung der "Hydropathie" mit der Homöopathie

Abstract: Already before the middle of the 19th century, notable homoeopathists tried to unite "cold water cures" (hydrotherapy" with homoeopathy. Ther intention was to heal signs of diseases, which should have been more difficult to manage with homoeopathy alone. This medical endeavour was doomed to failure. No compelling approach to the way, in which this procedures should be combined, could be formed. Though both are based on the support of the "self-healing" powers of nature, they are not at all dependent on each other. The conceptions of humoral pathology were not compatible with classical homoeopathic physicians and lay healers under the influence of "the nature cure" movement applied hydrotherapeutical methods in ther practice till the 20th century - incidentally within or beyond their proper homoeopathic therapy.
