Die Erkennung und Behandlung subklinischer Störungen des Hypothalamus-Hypophyse-Nebennierenrinden-Systems als Mediator pathologischen Einflusses chronischer Stressoren

Abstract: The organism mediates the adaptation to chronic stress via the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal-Axis (HPA-Axis). The adrenal cortex excretes higher amounts of the catabolic cortisol and may loose it's circadian rhythm. Parallel to this the production and excretion of anabolic hormones may be reduced or not be elevated. This altogether results in a chronically catabolic metabolic state. A chronic deviation from normal levels of these Hormones can result in multiple functional and pathological problems. These deviations may be established by four simply sampled saliva speciments at specific times during one day. There is no influence on cortisol-levels due to needle stress. Cortisol- and DHEA-levels are measured in the Saliva. They represent the unbound bioactive fraction of these hormones in the serum. The circadian levels of these hormones give clues for the interpretation of an acute, compensated or decompensated chronic reaction to stress or a pathological problem. This may also be of benefit in the clinically healthy person. The different phases of the reaction to chronic stress have some common and some different clinical characteristics. Clues from history, clinical picture and measured hormone levels enable the therapist to establish a program for a combination of causal holistic therapy and supportive therapy for the HPA-Axis.
