Quality Assurance Project "Naturopathy" within the Framework of the Clinical Collaboration "Münchener Modell"

Abstract: Within the framework of the university projectÂ’ Münchener ModellÂ’ for the 'Integration of Naturopathy into Research and Teaching' at the University of Munich, complementary medical methods will be investigated on a large number of patients in a network of naturopathic clinics. Although the performance of some randomized clinical trials is planned, the main emphasis is laid on the evaluation of structure, process, and outcome quality. Quality assurance is introduced as a tool for research, clinic management and concurrence. The particular features in regard to complementary medicine are discussed. Precondition for the quality assurance study in the network of naturopathic clinics is a standardized clinical documentation system. The main objective is the evaluation of outcome quality which comprises patient-oriented usefulness (outcome measures: intensity of main complaints, quality of life), costs and risks. Based on such data a comparison of the clinics should be made possible. Finally, the working program and the administrative realization of the quality assurance study are described.
