Schmerzbewältigung in der Rehabilitation nach operativer Behandlung von Wirbelsäulenerkrankungen

Abstract: In the case of a rehabilitation after surgically treated spondylopathy it is important, especially in order to achieve an optimum of pain management, to establish a holistic therapeutical concept together with the patient, which takes into consideration the physical and psychosocial preconditions of the patient. The aim of this concept must not only be to restore the organ function and to relieve the pain, but in the sense of a holistic secondary prevention, also to "change to an internal integrity" in order "to find the way to oneself and to live according to one's own nature" as Prof. Karlfried Graf Dürckheim said. To find a calmness, an inner relaxation, a basic trust in a natural basic atti-tude, which is firmly rooted in itself and which is at the same time related to the world..." (Graf Dürckheim 1976) and "to be allowed to be the one, 1 really am . - ." (as Silvia Ostertag said in "Being in perfect harmony with oneself') are the aims of a holistic concept of rehabilitation, which reaches beyond the merely functional concept of "repair". According to our opinion a pain therapy and a pain management which can be successful in the long run must be based on a holistic therapeutical approach. Individual methods and concrete concepts of treatment are presented briefly as an example. The further development of modem medicine, as it takes place in the field of the microsurgical methods, e.g. in the case of the vertebral column, must also be integrated in the further development of rehabilitation and the field of pain therapy. This development can only be a development towards a real holistic therapy which already begins in the acute phase.
