Abstract: In the pathogenesis of epicondylopathia, innervation and tonicity of forearm muscles play a role.Cold has an analgesic effect. An influence an the pathogenesis of epicondylopatbia through tone and pain reduction can be expected. It was the aim of this study to analyse the effect of cold an the innervation of forearm muscles. In each of 30 patients suffering from epicondylopathia of the humerus radialis, six forearm muscles were electromyographically examined with defined exertion. Cold was applied using ice packs in the epicondylus humeri radialis for five minutes. After the application of cold, the average amplitudes were higher than before. It can be assumed that, as a result of analgesia, the number of activated muscle fibres will increase. Perhaps motor units inhibited by pain reflexes are reactivated by cold and resulting relief of pain.
