Somatosensorisch - viscerale Interaktion / Ein Beitrag zu neurophysiologischen Grundlagen der Akupunktur

Abstract: Studies of somatosensory and visceral interactions seem to be important for the understanding of some mechanisms which underlie the analgetic and therapeutic effect of acupuncture. In animal experiments, electrophysiological methods revealed projection zones in subcortical and cortical cerebral areas, that partially overlap the somatosensory regions. Interactions between both systems were shown to exist. Thus, a preceeding electrostimulation of the forepaw (N. radialis) was able to modify the latency period and the configuration of visceral evoked potentials. Similar effects on flash evoked potentials in the visual system were obtained by electrical stimulation of the splanchnic nerve and by the distention of internal organs. Interactions also exist between the somatic and sensory systems. Either excitatory and inhibitory effects or an occlusion are discussed an possible mechanisms.
