Klinikum Grosshadern München BRD Sport and physiotherapy (including calisthenics) overlap in some respects although both sides fail very often to acknowledge the positive prophylactic and therapeutic factors on the other side. Athletes trainers as well as doctors working in sports medicine do have actually far more prophylactically and therapeutically active principles in terms of posture exercise structure joint protection and care for muscles than they practically use; physiotherapy does still have problems integrating sport-motorial learning and specific training methods into the therapeutic work. Still sport produces too many patients (2 7 8] and structure- and function-stimulating measures like regular cxercises of sport as a hobby which is fun as well following finding oriented physiotherapy is still missing. Whilst posture and motion performances in sport normally serve the purpose of achieving certain goals or the peaceful competition in physiotherapy they end in themselves. The physiotherapist first analyses the existing defective components of posture and motion. then professionally limits the areas of muscle and movement deficiency during her therapeutic work. Her background in generation of these symptoms and pathological states within the locomotor system given she can work goal-oriented on specific faults or deficiencies. Physiotherapy deliberately limits itself to the treatment of documentable deficiencies and palpable findings.
