About Differences - for example, between Music Therapy in Psychotherapy Clinics and in Social Work in Germany

Abstract: This concentration on the subject of differences does not have to do with comparing and evaluating music therapy skills and competence. Rather, in attempting to define some main points of difference between music therapy in both these fields of work (i.e.psychotherapy clinics and social work in Germany) this paper will focus attention on the importance of being aware of the influencing factors of specific work contexts on the form of music therapy practised. It also contributes to considerations about music therapy development in relation to own cultural contexts of institutional organisation structures and financial control which certainly differ from country to country. In making room for such discussions the aim is to see more clearly where possibilities for strengthening a common music therapy identity may lie.
