Stress management in the health care field: A pilot program for staff in a nursing home unit for patients with Alzheimer's disease

Abstract: Eight staff members on a unit for patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) in a private nursing home setting volunteered to take part in a pilot program on staff stress management conducted as part of a student community services/research program. Interviews were conducted and a 2-part survey was distributed to determine levels of stress. The results of this survey were used to design a program for the specific needs of these staff members. It was found that staff members liked the idea of learning how to handle their levels of stress within an informal format, but they did not participate in the sessions on a regular basis.
