Music therapy applications in a skilled and intermediate care nursing home facility: A clinical study

Abstract: Provided music therapy to 21 elderly clients (aged 61-93 yrs) in a nursing home. The predominant diagnosis for these clients was probable Alzheimer's disease (AD) at various stages. An individual S and 2 small groups of 4 Ss each were seen weekly for 30 min, and a larger group of 12 Ss interested in bell ringing was seen twice weekly for 1 hr, all over 10 wks. Progress as the result of treatment occurred in the individual S and across groups with improvement in active participation.
