Der „physiologische Eiweißspeicher" zur Überbrückung von Nahrungslosigkeit im Fasten - eine Utopie?

Journal/Book: Ärztezeitschrift für Naturheilverfahren. 1992; 33/1: 42-48.

Abstract: Fasting is always again questioned with the argument of irreversible losses of protein. In contrast thereto it is shown that sufficient protein reserves for an appropriate fasting are available in the major part of our people. The individual showing normal weight covers the protein requirement from the variable flow balance of the regeneration metabolism of the renewal tissue as well as the stable tissue. In the individual with overweight the protein stored in excess in these two tissues must be added, thus, such an individual being able safely to fast considerably longer. The individual showing underweight does in Gase that fasting being necessary for therapeuticalreasons (e. g. in case of rheumatism, asthma, colitis etc.) not only need the 230 calories of carbohydrates that are usual in the fasting according to Buchinger but in addition thereto the essential amino acids and fatty acids until the Balance is reached and that in the liquid form, i. e. a biologically supreme "modified fasting".Degenerative protein deposits are not suitable as protein reserves. However, there is a therapeutical interest to eliminate such deposits by means of fasting.Protein reserves and protein storage are part of the biogenetic survival programme of man. Thus, they are physiologic and by no means utopian!
