Abstract: Science has to be the basis of medicine, but the individual component of a disease cannot be grasped exclusively with scientific methods. Anthroposophic medicine resolves the assumed contrast between intuition and science. Thus it is in a better position to understand and treat processes of disease. The development of the growth is not the centre of the cancerous disease, but only a reaction an the occurrence of the cancer. Whether a pretumour stage develops into a primary tumour depends an complex bodily structures. Psychological processes play an important role as well in pathogenesis as in therapy. The success of mistletoe therapy may be due to the fact that mistletoe psychologically stabilizes the patients.
