Abstract: The nightshade family (solanaceae) includes a series of important cultivated and useful plants, but also medicinal plants which have long been familiar. The potato, tomato and pepper belong to the useful plants. Atropa belladonna, hyoscymas niger and datura stramonium are prominent amongst medicinal plants. Many of the plants used for medicinal purposes are known, particularly in homeopathy, to be valuable therapeutics.
