Wirkung und Wirksamkeit- Grundbegriffe der klinischen Pharmakologie und ihre Bedeutung für den Methodenstreit in der Medizin -

Abstract: In 1974 Gerhard Kienle's book "Arzneimittelsicherheit und Gesellschaft" ("Drug Regulation and Society") was published. In this book Kienle put emphasis on the necessity to make a distinction between effect and efficacy of therapeutical measures. This differential concept and its three major aspects will be discussed in the follow-ing article. Consequences concerning clinical trials are pointed out.The distinction - effect and efficacy - is a basic concept of clinical pharmacology. lt helps to understand the methodological controversy between conventional and complementary medicine.Therefore Kienle's distinction calls for careful respect and consideration in any European drug regulation.
