Erklärung der allgemeinen Wirksamkeit des Punktes Zu San Li (M 36) auf Grund der alten philosophischen Lehren Chinas

Journal/Book: Deutsche Zeitschrift für Akupunktur. 1992; 35/01: 20-23.

Abstract: The Chinese name for one of the most frequently used points Zu San Li (St 36) is analysed on the basis of the ancient philosophical teachings. The author draws attention to the difficulties of tanslating Chinese characters into European languages. Although many of these characters have recently been simplified, the variety of meanings each character may have has remained the same. For example, the simple sign "REN" may mean: man, person, seople, adult, all, man's power or hand. Zu San Li's variety of therapeutic effects are explained by presentday TCM theories. Apart form the commonly known interpretation ("Godly equnimity of serenity" and "three villages") the author adds "perfect inner order or regulation" or "Godly inner law". Emphasis is placed on the fact, that in-depth study of TCM is necessary in order to explain the mechanisms of acupuncture's effect in conventional Western medical terms and to understand the logic of this form of therapy. The different possibilities of translating these German translations of the Chinese into English demonstrates the point being made (note by the outhor of the English summary).
