Hypnotherapie bei Tumorpatienten *

Abstract: Hypnosis as an adjuvant therapy for tumor patients is discussed. Hypnotic procedures are indicated primarily for patients who are suffering from pain, nausea, and anxiety. Strategies such as desensibilization, dissociation, or strategies inducing hypnotic analgesia have been used successfully. Another major problem in addition to the ones caused by the illness itself is how patients cope with their disease. Hypnotherapy can be helpful in directing the patients awareness towards the more positive aspects of life. This is based on the assumption that the perceptional redirection is founded on the patients' ability of delimitation and differentiation at the somatic and psychological level. Hypotheses about the psychosomatic relationship between cancer and how the central nervous system influences the immune system are used as theoretical background.
