Abstract: We will give a survey of the therapeutically used immunomodulators deriving from bacterias, fungi and their metabolic products. By means of both animal experiments and clinical studies we will describe the manifold modes of action of these immunomodulators, which used to be called "adjuvants" or "alterants", too.
