Abstract: Objective: This study is expected to answer the question of regional sensitiveness to heat and its age and sex dependence with continuous short wave application (coil field method) of a fixer power stage. For this purpose, sensitiveness to heat was assessed with regard to dosage for short wave therapy.Subject: 100 test persons, 50 males and 50 females, were examined.Design: Each test person received one application of continuous short wave (coil field method), power stage 3 of therapy unit TuR KWI 5, in the lumbar, hip, cervical, knee and hand regions over 6 min. Sensitiveness to heat was assessed by classifying into 7 stages of sensitiveness. Results: Statistically significant differences in the regional sensitiveness to heat were found. It was mainly weak in the lumbar region. Increasing in the hip, cervical and knee regions, it was strongest in the hand region. Sensitivity to heat was stronger in the cervical region of females, but only in the age group between 25 and 49 years. Conclusions: To reach a certain degree of sensitivity to beat, regionally different power stages of short wave are necessary. Therapy units with big steps in power output are unsuited for adjustment to these stages. Dosed short wave therapy can only be compared with regard to the region.
