Abstract: Since approximately 15 years geriatrics as a special discipline of medicine has also in Germany more and more developed into an approved clinical branch. In this article the concept of the special Department of Geriatrics shall be described which in the meantime has above all in Nordrhein-Westfalen been established at about50 hospitals.
