Abstract: Proposes some psychoanalytic concepts of music and its psychodynamic roots in terms of psychoanalytic metapsychology. As a specific form of psychic activity within the preverbal auditory communication medium, music appears to persist even after the acquisition of language into adulthood as a mode of expression and a means of transmitting meaning. Although not necessarily bound to regressive tendencies within the psyche, musical experience can easily induce regressive tendencies because of its roots in early preverbal psychic activities. Convergences of ancient and contemporary notions of music are considered. (English abstract)
