Abstract: The purpose of the present study was to examine the effect of programmed pitch practice via the Pitch Master and private vocal instruction on the ability of children with hearing impairments to reproduce given pitches and pitch patterns vocally. The subject of the first study was a 12-year-old female with a severe hearing loss. A pitch practice program utilizing the vocalization tapes which accompany the Pitch Master, an instrument developed by Temporal Acuity products, to facilitate the internalization of singing as a kinesthetic response, was set up. Results indicated a significant improvement in the subject's ability to match a given pitch between the pretest and posttest evaluation. The subject of the second study was an 11-year old girl with a profound hearing loss. Final figures revealed a 26% improvement in vocal accuracy on part one of the assessment and 49% improvement on part two.
