The International College of Oriental Medicine

Abstract: The International College of Oriental Medicine (ICOM), the only charitable acupuncture training centre in Britain, provides a three year full-time training course for practitioners. Founded at the start of the 1970s, it is associated with a number of colleges in other countries, and contributed to the founding of the British Acupuncture AccreditationBoard in 1990.ICOM aims to make available to students the highest levels of the philosophical underpinning of acupuncture as well as thorough practical training, and a working knowledge of contemporary practices, including options to study Chinese herbal medicine, dietetics and massage. A comparative study of Western medicine and diagnostic systems is included and there is a strong emphasis on preventative practice ICOM's intake is limited by space to 30 new students per year.
