Moderne Grundlagen für die mikrobiologische Darmtherapie

Abstract: The normal microflora plays an important role for the maintenance of human health. Disturbances of the bowel flora are involved in many bowel diseases and cause them to some extent. Recently different pathogenic microorganisms (pathogenic E.coli, mycobacteria) were found in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases, which are thought to be involved in the initiation of these diseases.The antibiotic-associated colitis, which is caused by an overgrowth of toxigenic Clostridium difficile, arises as consequence of destruction of the microbial ecosystem.Therapeutic results of microbiological therapy, especially with living apathogenic E.coli bacteria, in the treatment of these diseases are shown. According to new research findings the development of the intestinal milieu and the antagonistic activity make an important contribution to the mode of action of E.coli-strains used in therapy.
