Abstract: Earlier studies have shown that oral administration of garlic can inhibit postprandial triglyceride and respectively cholesterol increase. The question of whether the viscosity of the blood and the peripheral microcirculation can be influenced by an alimentary hyperlipoidaemia and if an additional administration of garlic shows any effect should be clarified in a study. The cholesterol levels were not influenced significantly, the average erythrocyte speed in the capillaries of the skin showed a tendency to increase, and the haemocrit readings showed dosage-dependent reduction. Garlic stopped an increase of the plasma viscosity through fat-strain.
