Ulcus Ventriculi et Duodeni - a Psychosomatic Disease?

Abstract: The stomach ulcer has been considered a disease also with an psychogenous etiology since last century; thus, it is one of the » acknowledged« psychosomatic diseases. However, this does not automatically mean that the application of psychotherapeutical methods is always called for in its treatment. The morphologically recognizable damages of the organ require medicament treatment-which generally leads to quick improvement, while psychoanalysiswhich uncovers hidden conflicts - can often aggravate the disease in its acute stage. Relaxation exercises are more recommendable here, they should always be part of the plan of treatment of ulcus ventriculi et duodeni and of gastric irritation.
