Venous Diseases in Hospital and General Practice

Abstract: According to epidemiological studies more than 50% of the adult population show venous changes - about 10% suffer from venous diseases. Nevertheless, diseases of the veins are often played down.In diagnostics the general practitioner can use the methods of measuring the venous pressure, of photoplethysmography, of light-reflection-rheography, and of Doppler-sonography.Compression-therapy takes the first place amongst the therapeutical methods. With an additional arterial occlusive disease an enzyme therapy is often the only possibility amongst the different types of medicament treatments. Varicosis research has shown new aspects. The latest studies have proven quantitative enzyme changes in the varix-walls. Specific medicament treatment therefore seems to be possible.
