Steigerung der körpereigenen Abwehr bei chronischer Sinusitis

Abstract: Altogether 114 Patients with chronic sinusitis were treated for 3 months with either Symbioflor-Antigen or a placebo in a multicenter, randomized, double blind study carried out though 9 general practice doctors. The success of the therapy was judged using clinical parameters and laboratory parameters involving cellular and humoral defence mechanism. The patients received two subcutaneous injections per week for 3 months with increasing dosage. The Symbioflor-Antigen group, under treatment with Symbiofor-Antigen, reached a better clinical score of 82% in comparison to the placebo group with only 54%. This result with a p-value of 0.0003 is statistically significant (t,-test). In the total of Symptom free patients arrived at in the study, 68% was achieved by Symbioflor-Antigen and 32% by placebo treatment. There was an improvement of cellular defence mechanism in both groups without any marked difference between the Symbioflor-Antigen group and the placebo group. Regarding the humoral defence a more impressive increase in IgG was noted within the normal range for Symbioflor-Antigen when compared to placebo. Based an these results it can be concluded that treatment of chronic sinusitis with Symbioflor-Antigen appears reasonable.
