Physical Illness in the Process of Guided Imagery and Music

Abstract: This paper considers approaches to physical and mental health, the philosophy and psychology behind the so-called splitting of mind and body (Wilber, 1979) and ways of dealing with this. The technique of Guided Imagery and Music is placed within this context, with an outline of its rationale. Aplications of Guided Imagery and Music are considered, especially in relation to body and healing imagery. A model of ´physical marker imagery' is proposed and expanded upon, including the potential for projective diagnostic implications via the imagery. Case material of one client is given as an example, and discussed in terms of the model proposed. The paper concludes with a summary, recommendations and references.
