On the musical dimension of education: Impulses from music aesthetics and music therapy. TITLE, ORIGINAL: Zur musikalischen Dimension der Bildung: Anregungen aus Musikästhetik und Musiktherapie.

Abstract: Compiles arguments from music aesthetics and music therapy to clarify the educational effect of musical events. While both lines of reasoning refer to emotion, music aesthetics does not clearly indicate how the musical experience is located in the self, and music therapy has not stated how such a localization is connected with the work characteristic of musical objects. From the theoretical point of view, the therapeutic considerations are at a level that the aesthetic discussion reached by 1800. The reception arguments of music aesthetics, on the other hand, hardly take note of psychotherapeutic experiences. The old quarrel between the aesthetics of emotion and the aesthetics of the autonomous work of art, between emotive and cognitive educational contents of music, seems as yet unresolved. However, the classification of voice and pitch/mood constitutes a Çtertium comparationis> for both sides which should be treated from a pedagogical-theoretical point of view.
