Documentation and evaluation of the seminar: "Music in medicine: pain, anxiety, and stress reduction."

Abstract: The purpose of this manuscript was to document the seminar, "Music in medicine: pain, anxiety, and stress reduction.", a half-day seminar held on the campus of Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Minnesota on november 8, 1989. The seminar was designed to (1) introduce the concept of using music in medicine to health care providers in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, (2) to provide an overview of current research in music therapy as it applies to health care, and (3) to provide opportunities for informational exchange and marketing of music therapy services. Included within this manuscript are the following: (1) a description of seminar sponsors, (2) a description of the preparation process leading to the seminar, (3) edited transcriptionsof the six seminar presentations, (4) an evaluative summary of the data from two questionnaires completed by seminar participants, and (5) discussion and recommendations. This manuscript will serve as a resource for the Schubert Club Music Therapy Committee in planning future music therapy seminars.
