Abstract: This Geneva Meeting which was convoked by Dr. Akerele is the fourth meeting since December 1982. For the first time, Prof. Bischko und Dr. Meng participated as members and observers. A consensus could be reached for the following four points: 1. the 361 classical acupuncture points, 2. the 8 extra meridians, 3. the 48 extra points and 4. the points of the skull akupuncture. The problem of the ear acupuncture was not discussed. This will be discussed whithin the framework of a future meeting. This standardisation will have a great impact on the international exchange of experience concerning acupuncture. In the 2500 years old history of acupuncture an agreement with non-Chinese countries could be reached for the first time with regard to the stanndardisation of the acupuncture points. Acupuncture is well on the way to establish itself on a strong basis within the contemporary medicine. Parallel to this conference the relations between the WFAS and the Austrian and German acupuncture associoation were discussed. Beside other important occidental acupuncture associations the afore-mentioned traditional European associations have refused with regret to join the WFAS, for we are not interested in a mixed international acupuncture association as this is the cace for the WFAS at the moment. The German acupuncture association agreed with the suggestion of the Austrian associoation of 1985. The discussions with the president of the WFAS and other colleagues from China took place in a friendly and constructive atmosphere. A strict separation between physicians and non-physicians in the new WFAS status was discussed. We are optimistic to reach an agreement in this matters we did for the standardisation of the acupuncture in order to work for the progress of the acupuncture.
