Verständniswandel in der Diabetologie

Abstract: To-day in the medical practice and clinic the medical care of patients suffering from diabetes mellitus is still in a deplorable state and that because of taking it not serious and of resignation. The knowledge is only slowly appreciated and accepted that the approximately 3 millions of diabetics of type II in Germany are mainly to be treated most favourably by non-medicinal measures. The early and liberal administration of medicaments belonging to the sulphonyl-uric acid group renders such efforts rather difficult and does not replace the absolutely necessary training of these patients which should primarily become the task of the family doctor. The ambulatory basic treatment should in a differentiated way be for the younger diabetics of the type II and that according to age secondary diseases and the aim of it should be to achieve an adjustment close to the standard; whereas in patients with manifestation of diabetes mellitus who are in the age of retirement relativated objectives of the therapy may rather apply. Without coupling behavioural therapy with clinical medicine the practical diabetology will remain imperfect work with the for all patients fatal consequences of late complications.
