The importance of statistics in research design

Abstract: This paper aims to identify the importance of statistical considerations in the planning and design stages of an experimental study. Points are illustrated with examples from published studies on complementary therapies. The need to identify the objektive of the study clearly and specifically is stressed, a variety of types of design are discussed and the reasons for careful calculation of sample size are explained.
