Abstract: Within the last years the Ayruveda is increasingly spreading in the western industrial society. Through its holistic approach in which consciousness, body and environment are seen as one unit it provides important imaginative impulses for a period in which medicine is in a fundamental change. Ayurveda offers a systematic teaching which reveals the dynamic relationship between constitution, disease and environment. So, the physician can individually deal with the patient and also effectively advise him or her already in the stages of imbalance prior to disease. In this the physician can apply a very differentiated therapy which is based on athousand years old, living experience.
