Transkutane elektrische Nervenstimulation bei Migräne Eine retrospektive Analyse

Abstract: Within the framework of the "Düsseldorfer Schmerzambulanz" (Outpatients Department for Pain Relief) 50 patients suffering from migraine were treated with transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS). The treatment during 3, 6 and 12 months was successful in 50%, 38%, and 32% of the case, i.e. our results are smilar to the results obtained in other painful diseases. In 15 patients selected at random the effectiveness of an immediate migraine treatment was investigated. In 40% of the cases the pain was relieved to a large extent or completely within 30 minutes.Based on the present results, TENS may be useful in migraine treatment especially for patients who are resistant to therapies.In this context the emancipating aspect of the selftreatment at home might also be an important factor.
