Computers and music therapy: An integrated approach: Four case studies

Abstract: Four case summaries demonstrate the use of music software and computers in a therapeutic environment. Ss were 4 youths (aged 9-17 yrs) with Down syndrome, emotional and organic problems, mental retardation, or cerebral palsy with behavior problems. The cases illustrate the ability to reliably quantify Ss' success at their musical tasks. ABSTRACT 2: Computer aided instruction is becoming an increasingly popular tool for assisting pupils with special needs. Hitherto, there has been very little use of educational music software in special education. This article will discuss several case studies that demonstrate the use of music software and computers in a therapeutic environment. Specific examples of program utilization and pupil improvement will be described and ways of quantifying observed pupils growth will be discussed.
