The Efficacy of Music Therapy for People living with the Virus HIV and AIDS

Abstract: This paper was written after one years work at London Lighthouse (a centre for people facing the challenge of aids). It reviews the then current literature on the psychological aspects of AIDS. Two individual case studies are presented, one of long-term work with the client diagnosed HIV, the other with a client in the later stages of his illness. The importance of therapeutic improvisation is discussed as well as the importance of music itself within the therapeutic relationship and the aesethics therin. This was an initial study and raises more questions than answers when working the clients diagnosed HIV or AIDS. This Paper is available from the BSMT. Price ú3.
