Abstract: This report give a short survey an morphological and biochemical results in the Arthrosis deformans. A note to the usual symptomatic therapy (physical treatment, nonsteroidal antirheumatic agents) follows. It is necessary, that a basic therapy of the Arthrosis deformans should influence the metabolismus of the cartilage. For the socalled Chondroprotectiva-a group of special organotherapeutic agents-is proved, that they can stop the destruction of the cartilage and the reducing enzymes and on the other hand, the Chondroprotektiva have favourable effects to the reconstruction of the cartilage. Different animal tests show the cartilage-protecting effect. Within more than 20 years case reports, short- and longterm studies (open, single blind, double blind)-meet all requirements for clinical studies-demonstrated the clinical effectiveness of the Chondroprotectiva. The efficacy and the low rate of side-effects-and therefore a favourable benefit-risk-ratiomaking the Chondroprotectiva unrenounced in the treatment of the Arthrosis deformans.
