Quecksilber-Belastungen und Interaktionen mit Kupfer und Zink in Bezug zur Neurologie

Journal/Book: Erfahrungsheilkunde. 1989; 38/12: 854-870.

Abstract: In homoeopathy the elements copper and zinc have been used for more than 100 years in the treatment of disorders of the nervous system. On the other hand, in antiquity Plinius Secundus already reported considerable impairments of the central nervous system due to mercury. As a consequence of the research work undertaken in the field of enzyme chemistry and enzyme biology the official medicine is more and more interested in copper and zinc. Both metals play an important role as components of enzymes or as coenzymes, respectively, during the synthesis of neurotransmitters, especially serotonine and dopamine. In the periodic system, both metals belong to the "transitional elements" . In the so-called "zinc group" especially zinc can be superseded by Cadmium and mercury having a similar behaviour, which therefore induce a very neurotoxic reaction. However, the bivalent copper may be negatively influenced by cadmium and mercury, too.The research groups of Till in Vienna, Gasser in Basel and Hanson in Lund found out that the mercury-containing amallgam fillings in particular are very neurotoxic. For this reason, the renewal of the tooth fillings and a substitution of obviously missing copper and (or) zinc could not only lead to an amelioration of neurologic and psychic disorders (especially in the case of severe depressions), but even to a full recovery. Mercury in food plays only a secondary role. However, the use of mercury at work for example in a dental practice or as a beautician can also lead to high concentrations and induce an intoxication.
