Das Klimakterium - biologisches Ereignis und biographische Aufgabe

Abstract: The menopause is a symptomatologic event for a physiological process during the life of a woman. In this way it is not a pathological event. However, radical changes occur during the menopause with regard to the life of the woman. These changes affect the hormonal and physical as well as the mental and biographic aspects which can lead to remarkable and critical situations in the biography of the affected person. The relation of forces in the fernal organism changes from the period of reproduction to that of a gradually appearing senium which allows us to speak of "change of life". These changes have to be observed under two aspects: an one hand under the physical and somatic aspect, an the other hand under the mental and biographic aspect. Each of these aspects is marked by certain symptomatologic symptoms which have to be discussed. While the menstruation during the period of reproduction of the woman is regular an the somatic side, the developmental rhythms in the mental field, however, are subjugated to changing basic rhythms during the course of the biography which will be discussed in detail.Knowing this changing relation of forces an the different levels, the therapy of the climacteric events must be realized rationally. This therapy must of course also be realized under two aspects, i. e. a drug therapy and a psychotherapy. Both aspects must give hints for a regulatory therapy.
