Aknetherapie mit Zinkorotat - Gibt es Vorteile gegenüber Tetrazyklin?

Abstract: Young male patients with papulous-pustulous acne were treated orally with zinc orotate or tetracycline overa period of 3 months. The aim of this open, randomized and controlled study was to compare the healing effects of both treatments on the efflorescents of the patients. The physician had to examine the comedos, papules, nodes and pustules on a defined skin area at several designated times. Furthermore, he had to measure the quantity of sebum on the skin surface. The concentration of zincin serum and the alkaline phosphatase activity were also determined at the same time.Within the observed period of time, both drugs led to statistically significant improvements in both, the objective parameters and the patiens' opinion about the clinical symptoms, exept the two parameters comedos and sebum, which remained unchanged. After 3 months, there was no statistically significant difference in the clinical parameters between the two groups. There were, however, statistically highly significant differences in serum zinc concentration and alkaline phosphatase activities between patients treated with zinc orotate and those given tetracycline.There were no unwanted side effects in either group. Also, there were no dropouts from the study. The zinc orotate therapy has the additional advantage of treating zinc deficiency at the same time.
