Abstract: In order to obtain a short attack of fever during several hours only, a biomechanism innate to vertebrates is imitated by artificially introducing a bacterial autolysate. This activates an immune reaction which together with the cascade-like activated antibodies originally meant to destroy bacteria and viruses-can also employed against chronic diseases and, therefore, against cancer. Although patients survived for several years thanks to this therapy, only a few of such cases could be reported among approx. 1,000 patients at the 4 years old Äskulap Klinik, because most patients were in an advanced stage of the disease. It was, however, noticed that the fever therapy considerably improved the quality of life and provided an increase of the survival probability according to the stage of the disease.-Historical references, methods, conditions for the efficiency of the proveable immune reactions and the results are discussed. Thus, the fever therapy is a simple, cheap and efficient complementary method stimulating the immunological system which is well accepted by the patient who showed only minor side effects in more than 12,000 attacks of fever without fatal complications.The present intensified research in the field of tumour immunology will confirm the value of measures stimulating the immunological system and show that only the resistance of the body-the tumour resistance-determines the prognosis of the cancer.
