Abstract: AIDS has developed to be the health care problem number one, and in spite of profound research, there has not been found any effective treatment yet.As Ayurveda prevails a holistic approach to combat diseases, Ayurvedic physicians from all over India and medical doctors together planed a therapeutic strategy to combat AIDS.First results were encouraging in terms of subjective symptoms, objective clinical assessments and immunological measurements. These results warrant further investigation in a controlled clinical study with ARC and AIDS patients, who will receive a comprehensive Ayurvedic therapy.The Ayurvedic strategy will include not only herbal food supplements, but also a dietary routine based an individual Symptoms and psychophysiological constitution, stress management technics, chronobiological behaviour therapy to synchronize the body's own biological rhythms, procedures for neuromuscular and neurorespiratory Integration as well as music-therapy and Marma-therapy.For the present, the treatment scheme will be applied an patients with advanced HIV-infection (excluding AIDS-patients) over six months. Every three months the patients are Seen for clinical assessment, laboratory blood measurements and psychological assessments to verify the benefit of the treatment.Following up studies are planed with AIDS-patients in a multi-centre-study. The first study will begin in March 1989 in Munich.
