Psychische Störungen infolge okkulter Praktiken - Ein Überblick über Genese, Interventions- und Präventionsmöglichkeiten

Abstract: Even in modern societies currently there is an obvious trend towards occultism, spiritism and esoterism. Presently we observed a new" wave of occultism ". In West Germany it can empirically be shown that especially adolescents are increasingly facinated by the so called occult practices. In this context psychical automatisms play a leading role. As early as the last century psychology ascertained that psychical automatisms are ideomotorial muscular movements cursed by the unconscious and that they are able to generate intelligent productions. In connection with these automatisms frequently psychical disturbances of variing configuration are observed. Until today it is uncertain, whether solely taking part in occult sessions exerts pathogenic effects or whether the pathogenic mechanism requires a predisposing disturbance. Finally, possible psychotherapeutic interventions and prevention in the sense of mental health are discussed.
