An analysis of literature from selected music therapy journals

Abstract: Categorizes music therapy literature from Music Therapy Perspectives, Music Therapy: Journal of the American Association for Music Therapy, and The Arts in Psychotherapy. Music Therapy Perspectives is analyzed for the period 1982-1987, Music Therapy for 1981-1987, and The Arts in Psychotherapy for 1973-1987. Author and publication information are listed, and articles are divided into 17 different areas by topic and are also classified as research, clinical, or general, depending on the mode of inquiry. Articles in the current analysis are compared with those from the earlier analysis by A. Decuir (1987). ABSTRACT 2: Music therapy literature from Music Therapy Perspectives, Music Therapy: The Journal of the American Association for Music Therapy and the Arts in Psychotherapy is categorized, following the format established earlier (Decuir, 1987) with articles from the Journal of Music Therapy. Music Therapy Perspectives is analyzed from 1982 through 1987. The author and publication information are listed for each article. Articles are divided into 17 different areas by topic, and are also classified as research, clinical or general, depending on the mode of inquiry. Articles in the current analysis are compared with those from the earlier analysis, reasons for the differences are explored, and suggestions for future literature are made.
